Calling all Foodies!

A booking from Wendy Gallagher of Causeway Foodie Tours was a real moment for us on our collective road to recovery!

Picture this – A small group of friends sitting together enjoying great food and drinks, meeting artisan producers & having a laugh – seemed like a simple pleasure which Covid19 had almost obliterated. Thankfully the appetite to explore local food experiences, hear the stories, learn from producers has not waned. Wendy Gallagher re-designed her tour to deliver a Covid safe experience providing delicious eats and personal interactions that makes Coast and Country a ‘must do’ foodie activity when visiting the North Coast or simply filling your Saturday with fabulous flavours, fun and friendships!

The Coast and Country tour gives us the opportunity to showcase local producers and restauranteurs. With Wendy’s knowledge and passion for all things Taste Causeway, you get more than a flavour of what we all have to offer but the history, the stories and the craic behind it all!

Tartine at Distillers Arms Bushmills is a regular stop off on Wendy’s Coast & Country foodie tour. Tartine is an award winning restaurant in Bushmills synonymous for championing local producers. Their innovative taste menu will give you a flavour of ‘the place’ and you will have the opportunity to chat to the creatives behind the dishes.

The tour often includes a trip to the inspirational Broughgammon Farm where you will get a real flavour of what the Northern Ireland Food revolution is all about! The Cole’s are hard working and incredibly forward thinking family in terms of ethical and sustainable farming. You will fall in love with their happy goats and will be wowed by their efforts to rewrite the sustainable, organic farming book. Taste their stunning rose veal salami, pop into to their delicious farm café well stocked with seasonal produce, mouth watering cakes and bakes and lots of innovative produce from suppliers who share the same values. A visit to Broughgammon will inject you with’ the feel good factor’ and if you leave as I often do, craving more check out their workshops including foraging around the farm and herbalists workshops by the wonderous Becky Cole.

As a small restaurant, we at The French Rooms love the curiosity and interest our guests have in what they eat. In one stop, you will taste ingredients from 6 to 8 local producers, which is incredible when you consider, they are, like us, small family businesses, each with a passion and a unique story.

Participating in food tours such as Coast and Country provides the opportunity to get stuck in and fully embrace the award-winning providence on the North Coast, gaining insight into how we can all play a part in sustainability. In the very first tour of the season we had the pleasure to meet a couple onboard who run a family farm in Ballynahinch, raring Short-horn Beef so we had the opportunity to hear his story whilst he enjoyed seeing how the North Coast scene operates.
